Let me be more specific… about Sojos dog food mix?
I recently found a dog food mix called Sojos.. it has freeze dried veges and fruits in it amd there is a grain free formula.. and yes I know you are supposed to add fresh raw meat to it.. and that is a reason why I am looking into this dog food… I want to get as close to his natural diet as possible. Currently he is being switched to Fromm 4 star chicken formula because I found out he has a food intolerance. So Solid Gold was giving him the shits. I want peoples educated opinions on Sojos dog food mix.. Do you think it is better than an all kibble diet?? Does anyone have experience with this dog food.. and how do you dogs do on it??
Im always trying to find a better diet for him.. and I am not interested in just raw feed.. Im worried that he wouldn’t be getting all the nutrients necessary for him to thrive.
You can not feed just raw meat… they would need supplements as well… supplements that are provided threw certain fruits or vegetables
My local health food store that actually helped me get started on raw feeding sells it.
I’ve looked at it. I passed.
I did bring home a sample. One of my dogs ate it. She eats anything. The other one licked it and looked at me as if to say “What the hell is this? Where’s my meat?”
If you want a natural diet, feed raw meat. Replicate natural prey. That’s all there is to it.
If you make sure you use a variety of meats and you use the appropriate organs, etc there is no need to be concerned about missing nutrients. They’re all there.
Add: I’m sorry, you are simply wrong. You CAN just buy meat. Meat is what your carnivore has been developed for thousands of years to eat and to digest. Your dog does not posses the appropriate enzymes in his system to break down plant cells. This means he can derive very limited amounts of nutrients from them.
You are correct in that you cannot just buy ANY meat, it must be an appropriate combination of the RIGHT meats. But you most certainly can feed solely meat. It’s what thousands of people with supremely healthy dogs do every single day.
The one thing you SHOULD supplement is omega 3 amino acids. This is because commercially raised livestock often contains less of it than wild animals. So, if you’re not feeding a lot of wild animals or if you’re not feeding fish regularly – fish oils are a good idea.
