The day after the attack, America brought it self into the war, allied with Britain and declared war against Japan. However America’s resources like soldiers, weapons, transportation, food and fuel to operate the military were spread a little thin because of the necessity to fight on two fronts….

The United States had already made Japan understand that the United Stt4s would not tolerate Japanese expansion into areas such as the Dutch East Indies. To enforce this policy, the United States restricted oil exports to Japan, a serious blow because Japan had no oil resources of its own. The attack on Pearl Harbor was a retaliatory strike, intended to humiliate the United States. It did destroy or damage all but two American battleships, so that America’s naval power was greatly limited initially.
Japanese strategy was based on the idea that a humiliate United States, realizing how great an advantage Japan had won, would capitulate, agreeing to terms that would make Japan master of the Pacific Ocean and any country bordering it, and would reduce the United States to a servile status. Despite the losses at Pearl Harbor, the United States never considered this option. The United States declared war, and virtually all Americans realized that it would be a war to the death of one country or the other. (The Japanese regarded this as proof of American arrogance.)
Japan was allied with Nazi Germany and Italy, so it was hardly surprising that Germany declared war on the United States on December 11.
President Roosevelt had already resolved to concentrate the war effort on Germany, waiting to bring all of power against Japan. This reflected two primary factors: first, Germany was far more advance technologically, so that the Germans did have the potential to develop terrible weapons such as an atomic bomb, jet aircraft, and many other innovations that threatened mass destruction. Japan would continue to produce conventional weapons, but made very few innovations during the war, so that, for example, the aircraft used at Pearl Harbor were used largely throughout the war. Second, the only holdout in western Europe against the Germans was England. If England fell, the retaking of western Europe would have been endlessly complicated. Further, the blow to morale would have been catastrophic. By contrast, in the Pacific, the United States was the one great power opposing Japan. China was already effectively out of the war, propped up only by American aid. Australia was not a major power. The Soviets and the Japanese had a tactic agreement to leave each other alone. The greatest part of the Japanese war effort after the spring of 1942 was directed at the United States, and the United States was able to hold the Japanese at bay.
As for American resources, when the war effort reached full force, the United States could supply weapons, transportation, fuel, and food enough to supply several militaries. The great problem was gearing this massive production machine up. It took many months to bring factories on-line and refit them for war production. Instead of turning out sedans and coupes, Detroit was asked to turn out tanks and trucks. New Orleans boat builders switched from shrimp boats to landing craft. Ford Motor Company refitted its massive plant at Willow Run, Michigan, to make the engines and many other critical parts for the B-24 bomber. Barely 100 of these behemoths were in action when Pearl Harbor was attacked. Soon, they were rolling off the assembly line at remarkable rates, peaking in 1944, when production averaged 650 planes per month, something no other country could match. By 1943, the U.S. Navy brought the first of its great battleships into action. These ships were so large that they were specifically built to be the widest ship that could pass through the Panama Canal, 108 feet across and 890 feet long, which made them 7 feet longer and 16 feet wider than Titanic. Meanwhile, American convoys carried literally millions of tons of materials to England and on through the Arctic Ocean to the Soviet Union. The United States may have been labeled thin in 1941. Within months, it was robust and showing power that no other nation could match.
